Christeyns Audits the Eco-Design of Its Packaging and Secures European Ecolabel Certification

The European Ecolabel specifications, running to over 300 pages of requirements, detail the obligations relating to product efficacy, ingredients and packaging, which are mandatory for all certified products.
In a first phase, RecycleMe carried out an analytical review of the two specification documents to understand and compile a checklist, along with an in-depth technical analysis of the Ecolabel-certified packaging systems, to assess their recyclability across 27 European countries and Switzerland.
In a second phase, RecycleMe analysed each of the packaging systems at the 5 production sites (SP, FR, BE, UK). All components were examined: container, cap, label, dosing system… with application of the relevant checklists for detergents, cosmetics or both, as applicable.
Finally, the critical points were consolidated by RecycleMe into an educational summary note for Christeyns France, responsible for coordinating labelled products, in order to train the teams at other sites.
Deliverables
- A PDF guide summarising current and future requirements of the Detergent and Cosmetic Ecolabels, accompanied by a checklist.
- 4 product analysis factsheets: a traffic-light colour code for rapid visualisation of packaging compliance, with suggestions to extend compliance to the 2030 horizon.
- An awareness note for internal teams.
